The Foundation Development and Climate Alliance was launched in 2018 by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to bring development cooperation and climate action together — in exactly that order. Where many supply chains begin, in the countries of the Global South, climate action is at the same time poverty reduction and the stabilisation of markets, supply chains, and livelihoods.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (BMZ) start-up funding runs until mid-2030, after which no further funding is planned or possible. The Foundation is therefore financing its work independently. By resolution of the Board of Trustees, the current multi-stakeholder community will become a registered supporting association on 1 January 2027. This will offer formal membership, a clear service commitment, and opportunities to help shape the organisation. Your connection with the Alliance will be preserved and become more exclusive.
A member of the member association with voting rights and the opportunity to help shape its activities in accordance with the articles of association.

From September 2026, you will have access to a knowledge base, event archive, studies, guides and reporting materials, all in one place.
Members are listed on the Foundation’s website and can use the member of the Foundation Development and Climate Alliance’ logo.
“We are a member of the Foundation” is a verifiable fact that can be reported under the CSRD, ESG ratings and investor relations.
The annual fee is based on your organisation’s turnover and is in line with the principle of solidarity: those who can contribute more do so, thereby keeping the supporting association open to organisations of all sizes.
There are three offerings available to members on a priority basis. These are governed separately and are not included in the membership fee.
The DEKRA-validated seal aligned with EU regulations for your climate commitment.
Tailored workshops, training and sparring sessions on climate strategy, climate finance and climate communication.
Direct access to high-quality climate certificates with the necessary adjustments under Article 6.
