Climate Lab is a belgium based carbon project developer. We work with smallholders and communities to restore landscapes through afforestation and agroforestry at a watershed scale. Each project is co-designed around local needs, using native species and science-based methods. Certified by Plan Vivo, 60% of revenues are reinvested into community-driven projects, creating a traceable, lasting impact. Currently our projects are based in Ethiopia, Mozambique and Bolivia.

EthioTrees

Project background

EthioTrees partners with communities across the Tembien Highlands in Tigray to co-create sustainable livelihood opportunities for smallholders and landless farmers through reforestation, agroforestry and ecosystem services development.

Project started in 2016, is fully implemented and issuing carbon credits already. Project duration is until 2066

Target group

The project is targeting vulnerable communities in the Tigary region of Ethiopia. There are a lot of landless farmers and women who are engaged in the project

Effect achieved

To date almost 1 Mio. t CO2 has been sequestered by the project

Co-benefits achieved

– Since 2016, the project has successfully doubled the market price of frankincense resin to generate non-carbon income.
– Enhanced food security i.e. almost 30k people were supported during 2021 famine.
– Intensive soil and water conservation structures are constructed to capture water and support downslope spring activity.
– Over 10 large water reservoirs have been constructed and many more are in progress.
– Over 200 farmer have received training on improved honey harvesting techniques.
