PROJECT EXAMPLE

Water filter + solar lamps with microcredit, India

Project background
Poverty remains a significant challenge in India, particularly in rural areas. Millions of people live below the poverty line, impacting their access to essential needs such as food, education, energy, and healthcare. Access to clean drinking water is another major issue, as many communities face water scarcity and inadequate sanitation.

This project addresses these challenges by replacing traditional wood fires and kerosene lamps with water filters and solar lamps in India. Since these more energy-efficient products are often too expensive for local communities, the project provides Microenergy Credits (MECs) to small businesses, making water filters and solar lamps more affordable.

By strengthening local entrepreneurship and improving access to energy-efficient technology, the project not only reduces emissions but also helps families save money on fuel and lowers their exposure to harmful smoke. Additionally, many households save time, as the time-consuming task of collecting firewood is reduced or even eliminated.
