Partner for development and climate action

Profile & Contact

Knauber ProKlima is part of the Knauber Group. This business unit focuses on climate protection. Knauber ProKlima supports companies and organisations in measuring and reducing emissions, and identifying sustainable alternatives in order to achieve climate goals.
Customers benefit from a holistic approach: from carbon accounting and reduction to offsetting, Knauber offers all services from a single source.

To help companies gain a better understanding of their emissions and to support them in achieving their sustainability goals, the amount of emitted emissions is summarized in a CO footprint (Corporate Carbon Footprint) that identifies potential areas for emission reduction. Thanks to its close connection with Knauber Energie, ProKlima offers not only expert advice on reducing emissions, but also concrete solutions – such as green electricity, biogas, and other climate-friendly energy sources.

The preparation and structure of the carbon footprint assessment are flexible and tailored to individual needs – including the ability to accommodate specific requirements or industry-related characteristics.

To offset emissions that cannot be reduced or avoided, Knauber ProKlima offers carbon offsetting by supporting climate protection projects that are certified according to high standards. In selecting the projects, great emphasis is placed not only on CO offsetting but also on generating sustainable added value for the project regions.
With a broad product portfolio and comprehensive market access, the ProKlima team identifies the right climate protection project for each customer – tailored to their individual goals and needs.

To ensure maximum transparency, emission certificates are retired directly in the official registry. Customers are always accompanied by dedicated contact persons who reliably guide them through the entire process.

PROJECT EXAMPLE

Clean drinking water in Cambodia through water filters

Project background
The majority of the Cambodian population has to boil their drinking water in order to get rid of harmful pathogens. The water usually comes from rivers, lakes, ponds or wells, and often poses health risks due to the low hygiene standards.
The most common method of water purification is using wood-fired stoves. The high demand for firewood in turn threatens the local forests. The smoke produced during the cooking process can have harmful effects on respiratory health, especially for women and children who spend most of their time near the stoves or inside the home.
As part of the project, locally produced ceramic water filters are sold to provide families across Cambodia with clean water. Once the water passes through the ceramic filter, it reaches potable water quality and no longer needs to be boiled. The sanitary plastic container includes a tap.
The water filters guarantee a supply of clean drinking water, protect forests and reduce fuel use, costs and carbon emissions.

89,000 tonnes carbon saved per year
Co-benefits achieved
The ceramic water filters used in the project reliably remove 99.99% of all bacteria. Over a period of seven years, the project aims providing between 168,000 and 315,000 units to improve the lives of 900,000 to 1.7 million people. Thanks to the water filters, there is no longer a need to boil the water before use. This reduces the pressure on Cambodia’s forests. Each water filter replaces around 2 tonnes of firewood per year. By avoiding fuel costs, families can retain more of their household income, helping to stimulate the regional economy.
Local cooperation partners
The project developer is Hydrologic Social Enterprise Ltd., which manufactures the ceramic filters from locally available clay in the village of Trapeang Samrong/BL with the help of local specialists and labourers.
