The One Young World Summit is an annual event that brings together the brightest young leaders from over 190 countries to discuss and work on the most pressing issues facing the world today. The Summit aims to empower young leaders with integrity to build a fair, sustainable future for all. The 2025 Summit will take place from 3-6 November in Munich, Germany, featuring dynamic workshops, plenary challenges, and interactive stages. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with global leaders, participate in impactful discussions, and form valuable connections that drive positive change. Plastic, People, Planet – Circular Climate Action for Sustainabe Development
How can we turn waste into climate solutions and why does it matter? This interactive session dives into the world of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) through the lens of circular economy projects that go beyond carbon offsetting. Using a real-life example from the TONTOTON initiative in Cambodia, we explore how local plastic waste solutions can deliver measurable climate impact and broader social and environmental co-benefits aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
Participants will gain a better understanding of how circular projects can generate plastic credits and contribute to global climate targets, while simultaneously improving lives for local communities. In groups, you will take on the role of a fictional company and design your own circular VCM project based on your country’s/region’s challenges. Together, we will reimagine what responsible climate action can look like and how your projects can achieve co-benefits.
No prior technical knowledge is required. Just bring your ideas, voice, and passion for climate action and sustainable development.
Each participant has their perspective to share, deriving from own experiences in the field and from their specific home country – we look forward to share and get to know these.
